Learn how to use plants and botanical extracts to appreciate the beauty of natural color. This is a tutorial on the method you'll use to discover the potential color in the plants that grow all around you. We'll talk about how to get these various fibers ready for dying using samples of wool, silk, hemp, linen, and cotton. Then you will learn how to dye using ingredients that are easily accessible, such onion skins, avocado pits, red cabbage and pomegranate grinds as well as with plant extracts like cutch and sapanwood Later in the workshop, we'll widen the color range by altering the fabrics in iron, acid, and alkaline baths.
You will finish the course with a swatch book of all the fabrics' colors as well as detailed instructions outlining each step. You'll depart with everything you need to carry out experiments at home. Anyone interested in working with textiles in a more organic, non-toxic manner or anyone who just wants to try something new should sign up for this course. It should help you feel more at home in your surroundings and appreciate the hidden colors that are all around you.
The course runs from 10 am to 3:30 pm

Natural dyes can be used to color cloth and fibers in a sustainable fashion. Natural dyes stand for the idea that imagination, talent, what we produce, how we dress, and the natural world are all interconnected. We hold genuine beliefs that a connection to history and culture can be made via color, as dyes demonstrate.
